Dermatology Clinic of McAllen, McAllen Texas

It is a 11,000 square feet facility comprised of 21 exam/procedure rooms equipped with a Mohs lab. Additionally, there is a study area, teleconference room, library, and lab with a teaching microscope.  Dermatology Clinic of McAllen utilizes a state-of-the-art fully integrated Electronic Medical Record, thereby making the facility paperless.  This site provides training in Mohs micrographic surgery, procedural dermatology, medical dermatology, geriatric dermatology, phototherapy, and pediatric dermatology.  The main teaching site sees a variety of patients and offers a wide range of care and treatment options. There is a specialized wing of pediatric dermatology at the training site staffed by a physician who is board certified in pediatric dermatology.  Because the clinic is located in a highly underserved Texas-Mexico boarder town, the residents are exposed to some very rare pediatric diseases.  I n addition, the clinic also provides Mohs micrographic surgery to this underserved population.  It is the only facility and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) certified lab qualified to perform Mohs micrographic surgery in a 150-mile
radius. It is staffed by the only board-certified Mohs surgeon south of San Antonio and Corpus Christi.  The residents have the opportunity to participate in Mohs micrographic surgery as the first assistant and, in some select cases, as the primary surgeon. Complex repairs, flaps, and skin grafts are routinely performed at this site and the residents also have the opportunity to perform some of these procedures under direct supervision. Didactic education is provided via teleconference with the involvement of multiple faculty members from other dermatology
residency programs and training sites.

Dermatology Clinic of Starr County, Rio Grande City Texas

Located next to the Starr County Memorial Hospital, the dermatology clinic provide dermatologic care to the highly underserved population of Rio Grande City, Roma, and other nearby municipalities. It is the only full-time operating dermatology clinic in the county.

Dermatology Clinic of Starr County incorporates telemedicine module for real-time consultation between physician, physician assistant, and patient simultaneously for clinical interview.

Dermatology Clinic of Laredo, Laredo Texas

The Dermatology clinic provides dermatologic care to the highly populated border city of Laredo.  It is a 6,000 square feet facility.  Dermatology Clinic of Laredo incorporates telemedicine module for real-time consultation between physician, physician assistant, and patient simultaneously for clinical interview.

Rio Valley Dermatology, Brownsville Texas

It is a 4000 square feet facility comprised of 9 exam/procedure rooms equipped with a study area and library.  Rio Valley Dermatology is located in Brownsville, Texas, the largest city in the Rio Grande Valley. The training site serves a mostly Hispanic population with a below national average income level. It is also medically underserved and has a very special challenge in helping patients receive the proper medical care. There are many complex and challenging skin pathology cases. There is also a large pediatric and geriatric population. The residents have exposure to a wide range of ages of patients and diverse pathology. The clinic is staffed by a board-certified dermatologist to provide adequate direct supervision for the residents. There is also excellent support by the nursing staff.
